CITY BACKGROUND
Dagupan is rapidly on its way to economic upturn in terms of trade and
commerce. It is bustling with even more business as people from the nearby
province swarms anew to the city.
It has a population of 128,499 as of 1998, an increase of 2,285 persons
from its 1995 population survey. Although, the city is smaller than San
Carlos and Laoag in terms of land area, it has the highest population
density placed at 2,945 persons per sq.m.
Dagupan City, compromising 3,720 hectares and made up of 31 Barangays in
the 4th district of Pangasinan-lies 3 km inland of the shallow Dagupan
river. It is a city of bridges and estuaries (esteros) or waterways.
Dagupan celebrates its fiesta from December 26-27 every year. This city
it's the marketing center of Pangasinan's produce and its own minor port.
This makes it the hub of trade and commerce in this province.
The city's oldest church dates back from 1816 and it now stands beside a
modern cathedral. The former church was destroyed in the rebellion of
1660. To the north of the province is the Pugaro-Suit Island Beach. An:
"Island Barrio" with 2 km of beach and dunes. On Blue Beach, Bonuan which
is 3 km from Dagupan City, there is a marker commemorating the U.S.
landing in 1945. Dagupan City is noted for its great seafood's and the
native delicacy called Bocayo (coconut candy). The estimated 126,214
Dagupeņos consist of long-established substantial group of Chinese and
mestizos. Consequently, Dagupan City has its own Chinese Cemetery which
lies in Perez Avenue on M. H del Pillar Street. There are three main
transport carriers plying the provincial route which includes Five Star
and Victory Liner on del Pillar Street and the Dagupan Bus Company on A.
B. Fernandez Avenue. Dagupan City is the terminal point for the
Philippine's first rail line inaugurated in 1892.
Around Dagupan's immediate vicinity are San Fabian (noted for its white
beach), Manaoag, Calasiao and San Carlos City. Also worth mentioning is
Tondaligan Ferdinand Park located 600 meters off the coast road to San
Fabian. Consisting of 72 hectares, it has picnic shades and the Tomb of
the Unknown Soldier. Pangasinenses share a high level of spirituality
because of their many old and famous churches. The dialect consists of
Ilocano and the native Pangasinan.
SITE HIGHLIGHTS
The project is located at Bonuan Boquig, Dagupan City. The 5.3 hectares
site is situated in a traffic and flood free location along Bonuan
Highway, approximately 15 minutes ride from the city proper. Passenger
jeepneys from Dagupan going to Boquig and San Fabian provide easy access
to the area for the convenience of the riding public.
